GLOSSARIO 2001 - AEROPORTUALI

Units Aircraft = Are unit Ioad devices which interface directly with aircraft Ioading and restraint systems and meet all restraint requirements without the use of supp!ementary equipment. As such they are a component part of the aircraft.

 Units, Non-Aircraft = Are unit ioad devices which do not meet the description of Aircraft Units.

 Universal Postal Union = Organisation which negotiates international mali charges.

 Unlanding = The removal of cargo, mai!, baggage or stores from an aircraft after a Ianding, except cargo, mali, baggage, or stores continuing on .the next stage of the same through-flight.

 Unmanned free balloon = A non-power-driven, unmanned, iighter-than-air aircraft in free flight.

Note:   Unmanned free balloons are classified as heavy, medium or Iight in accordance with specifications contained in Appendix D.

 Upper-air chart = A meteoroiogicai chart reiating to a specified upper-air surface or iayer of the atmosphere.

 US = USAir Inc.

 Usability factor = The percentage of time during which the use of a runway or syste of runways Is not restricted because of the cross-wind component.

Note:   Cross-wind component means the surface wind component at right angies to the runway centre me.

 Usage dispatch inoperative equipment Iist = The number of occasion on which the Minimum Equipment List Is used.

Note: The MEL is used when an aircraft Is dispatched with some item either inoperative or less than 100% operative, and such dispatch is permitted bythe operators MEL. The MEL is used more than once per departure, if such departure occurs with more than one item Iess than 100% operative.

Note:   lt Is computed by divising the total flying hours (airbourne) accumulated by the fleet in a reporting period by the number of in-service aircraft days in the same period. Utilization may also be expressed in flying hours per year.

 V = Volt.

 Vi  = Decision speed.

 V2 = Take-off safety speed.

 V2min = Minimum take-off safety speed.

 VA = Viasa.

 VA = Design manoeuvring speed.

 VAI = Valuables (such as banknotes or paper currency, gold coin and bullion, p!atinum, diamonds, jewellery, securities, ect.).

 Valuable Cargo = Means a consignment which contains one or more of the articles as described in Ruie 3.7.6.

 Valuatian Charge = A charge br carriage of goods based on the value declared of such goods.

 Value br carriage, Declared = The value of goods declared to the carrier by the shipper for the purpose of determining charges or of establishing the limit of the carrier?s liability for bss, damage or delay. it is also the basis for possible applicable valuation charges (see Rule 3.2).

 Value surcharge = A surcharge for the carriage of cargo having a value in excess of a specified amount per kibogram.

 VAP = Visual Aids Panel.

 VARA = Advance booking charter.

VASIS Visual approach slope indicator system.

 VAW = Volcanic Ash Warnings Study Goup.

 VB = Birmingham Executive Airways PI.c.

 VB = Design speed far maximum gust intensity.

 VD = Design diving speed.

 Vendor = An organization that seils products far use by the air transport industry. The products may include spare parts, information and Eiectronic Data Processing requirements.

 Vertical pianes = Planes perpendicular to the horizontal piane. VFOP = Visuai Fiight Ruies Operations Panei.

 VFR = Visuai FiightRuies/The symboi usedto designate the
visuai fiight ruios.

 VFR llight = A fiight conducted in accordance with the visuai flight rules.

 VHF = Very high frequencies.

 Virtual origin = The point at which the straight iine through the 30 per cent and 5 per cent ampiitude points on the pulse ieading edge intersects the O per cent ampiitude axis.

 Visibility = The abiiity, as determined by atmospheric conditions and expressed in units of distance, to see and identify prominent uniighted objects by day and prominent lighted objects by night.

 Visible = Visibie on a dark night with a ciear atmosphere.

 Visual approach = An approach by an FR fiight when either part or ali of an instrument approach procedure is not compieted and the approach is executed in visuai reference to terrain.

Visual manoeuvring (circling) area = The area in wich obstacie ciearance shouid be taken into consideration far aircraft carrying out a ciciing approach.

 Visual meteorologicai conditions = Meteorologicai conditions expressed in terms of visibility, distance from cioud, and ceiiing, equai to or better than specified minima.

 VK = Volume Ciass / Air Tungaru Corporation.

 VLF = Very iow frequencies.

VLOF = Lift-off speed.

 VMC Visual Meteorological conditions / The symbol used to designate visual meteorological condictions.

 VMCA = Minimum control speed in the air.

 VMCG = Minimum controi speed on the ground.

 VMCL = Minimum control speed during ianding approach with the critical engines inoperative.

VMCL-2 = Minimum controli speed during Ianding approach with

 twa critical engines inoperative.

 VMM = World WeatherWatch.

 VMO/MMO = Maximum permissibie operating speed or ?vlach number.

 VMU = Minimum unstick speed.

 VOL = Volume.

 VOLMET = Meteorological information far aircraft in flight.

 VOLMET braadcast = Routine broadcast of meteorological information far aircraft in flight.

 Voli (V) = The unit of electric potential difference and electromotive force which is the difference of eiectric potential between twa points of a conductor carrying a constant current of i ampere, when the power dissipated between these points is equal to i watt.

 Volume Charge = A charge far carriage of goods based on their volume.

 VOR = VHF omnidirectional radio range.

 VP = VASP - Viacao A?rea Sao Paulo S.A.

 VR = Rotation speed.

 VREF = Reference landing approach speed, all engine inoperative.

 VS = Virgin Atlantic Airways / Minimum caiibrated speed in flight during normal stail manoeuvre.

 VSO = A stalling speed or minimun steady flight speed in the landing configuration.
